Services

Freelance rider and trainer

Myles travels all over Sussex, Surrey and Kent and will travel further for clinics and groups. Available to start and continue the progress of your horse through all stages of training, initial backing through to hacking, training or competing.

He is also an excellent trainer with expert eyes from the ground, giving clear simple advice whether you have a specific problem or just want a bit of guidance or confidence. Happy to teach all ages and abilities Myles is especially sympathetic with riders who struggle with nerves, making them feel comfortable and confident in the saddle.

Breaking, behavioural and schooling

Myles will take horses in for schooling or starting and he specialises in offering boot camp for horses that have got a little difficult to handle or ride. At Myles yard the horses are cared for to an extremely high standard.

Myles is quiet and patient with young uneducated horses and those with behavioral issues, believing that most problems encountered arise from a misunderstanding or confusion. He works with them sympathetically but clearly using consistency and repetition until the horse understands. As a standard, Myles expects a “broken” horse to be relaxed and willing with all its work, from being tacked up and mounted to hacking and popping over a small jump; he always produces relaxed and willing horses and has started many professionals’ horses in the south east, see testimonials page for more details.

Excellent concessions and a package deal are available for studs and other professionals.

Testimonial

I would like to thank Myles West for the excellent way he started my young horse. He showed complete confidence and a calm relaxed attitude at all times which then transferred to the horse.
It took only five days and then he was ready for me to get on and ride away, and being quite a nervous rider myself I think this is a great achievement.
I will be using Myles for all my young horses in the future and I cannot recommend him enough.
